Fundraising record for “Radio K Bryr Sig”
Last week, Radio K Bryr Sig broadcasted live for 36 hours to raise money for Musikhjälpen, which kicked off on Sunday. The students had a clear goal to raise at least SEK 100,000 - which they achieved.
Radio K is one of the committees under the student association LOK at the School of Education and Communication (HLK) at Jönköping University (JU). The highlight of the year, and their biggest event, is Radio K Bryr Sig (translation: Radio K Cares, RKBS). In the annual event, the students broadcast live with challenges, quiz, guests, music, market and auctions - all to support Musikhjälpen.
On Wednesday, 4 December at 22:00, the 36-hour broadcast ended. RKBS broadcasted live from a glass cage and live streamed at Café Rio in the Student House on campus so anyone could come and watch. In the same place they also held a quiz, live performances from four different artists, and had competitions that attracted many visitors on Tuesday evening.
Julia Sandklef and Ella Johansson, two of the RKBS students, were very pleased with the event.
“It has been incredibly fun. On Tuesday evening, Café Rio was full of people, it was great. The fact that we can have this much fun and at the same time raise so much money for an important cause is fantastic,” says Ella.
Best student-run fundraiser
By the end of the event, RKBS had raised approximately SEK 95,000, but this did not include all the auctions and other items. The final total is not yet available, but at the time of writing RKBS has raised SEK 116,000 for Musikhjälpen, which is a new record. RKBS is also the best student-driven fundraiser in Sweden.
“It's unreal that we managed to organize everything so well. But breaking the fundraising record has been a mantra in our heads for months now. We have all worked and struggled in different ways to reach our goal. Right now, the feeling is probably mostly a sense of pride in the group,” says Mimmi Alexandersson, sponsorship manager for RKBS.
The team has been working on planning the event since March and Mimmi wants to emphasize the cooperation within the group.
"The best part is getting to organize events together with a fantastic group and seeing how we grow together," she says.
Musikhjälpen
For one week in December, three famous presenters are locked in a glass cage in a square in a Swedish city. The programme will be broadcast live around the clock on Sveriges Radio P3 and on SVT/SVT Play. The aim is to raise awareness and money for charity by engaging both listeners and viewers. Musikhjälpen always has a new topical theme, this year it is "Everyone has the right to survive their pregnancy." This year's programme hosts in the cage, which this year is in Sundsvall, are Linnea Wikblad, Assia Dahir and Emil Hansius. They started on Sunday 8 December and will broadcast live until the evening of Sunday 15 December.
