Måns Svensson appointed as new President of Jönköping University

The Foundation Governing Board has decided to appoint Professor Måns Svensson as new President of Jönköping University starting 1 April 2024. Professor Svensson has previously worked as Dean of the School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences at Halmstad University.

Måns Svensson is Professor of Sociology of Law and has many years of experience in leadership roles from both Lund University and Halmstad University, where he has also built research environments.

“I feel humbled and happy from the trust that the Board has shown me, at the same time I realize that the appointment as President of Jönköping University entails a great responsibility. For many years, the University’s activities have been characterized by great success in both education and research. I look forward to the opportunity to work together with students and staff to further develop this work,” says incoming President Måns Svensson.

After an extensive selection process and with an active Electoral College, the recruitment group, led by Foundation Governing Board Chairman Anders Danielsson, has proposed Måns Svensson for the Board, which is unanimous in its decision.

“The Foundation Governing Board is very pleased that Professor Måns Svensson will be the new President of Jönköping University. The Board and the Electoral College agreed that he is suitable for the role of academic leader, with experience and ambitions to continue developing the university. I want to thank Agneta Marell for working for seven years to strengthen JU’s position, both nationally and internationally,” says Anders Danielsson, Chairman of the Foundation Governing Board.
