Empowering Change: international scholars embark on a sustainable journey

This academic year sixteen international scholarship holders, awarded with the prestigious Swedish Institute’s Scholarship for Global Professionals, started their master’s studies at Jönköping University (JU). United by a shared passion for fostering sustainable development in their home countries and regions, they look forward to the journey they are now embarking on in Sweden.

The SI Scholarship for Global Professionals, awarded by the Swedish Institute, is a very competitive fully funded international scholarship program for master’s level studies in Sweden. This year, 299 scholarships were awarded to people from 41 countries of which 16 start their master’s studies at JU this semester.

The granted scholarship holders will over the next one or two years, in addition to their studies at JU, exchange perspectives and network with fellow scholarship holders and Swedish businesses and organizations through the SI Network for Global Professionals.

We are very happy that so many of the scholarship holders choose to study their master's at JU. We are an international university with a strong focus on sustainable development. In addition to this year's 16 new scholarship holders, there are another 13 here who are now doing their second master's year,” says Leticia Lövkvist, SI Coordinator at JU.

Selected to Advance the UN's Sustainable Development Agenda 2030

The SI scholarship holders at JU during the academic year 2023/2024 come from Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Cambodia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Georgia, Ghana, Gambia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Vietnam.

The scholarship aims to develop future global leaders who will contribute to the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It is awarded based on academic merits, leadership, and work experience, as well as the applicants' ability to contribute to sustainable development in their home country.
