Students studying on the Mechanical Engineering with specialisation in Product Development and Design programme have been developing a chainsaw prototype in their Product Development course, which is run in collaboration with Husqvarna Group.

On Friday 7 December, it was time to show the fruits of their effots. The exhibition began at 9'oclock with a mingle and coffee in the entrance of the School of Engineering where the students had set up exhibits of their prototypes. Thereafter an assesment of the prototypes was carried out by staff from the School of Engineering and Husqvarna Group.

"On this course we work in project-form and in close connection with industry," says Conny Larsson, programme director for Product Development and Design and the School of Engineering. "We have 15 engineers from Husqvarna who work with us in steering groups. It's important for the students to do real-life projects, work with people from the industry, and create real products."

Husqvarna Group is a strategic partner for the School of Engineering and this is the fourth year running that the company has collaborated on the Product Development course. Andreas Rangert, vice president for Product Management and Development at Husqvarna Group sees many benefits for both the students and the company in taiking part in this project.

"The students get a chance to see the reality of working life, and of course we would like to encourage an interest in Husqvarna Group as a company as well," says Andreas Rangert. "We want students to consider Husqvarna as a future workplace and thereby stay local, which is extremely important for the Jönköping region as a whole.

Students who took part in the Product Development course had a fun and educational experience.

"It was great to work with the managers and engineers from Husqvarna Group. They were very supportive." says Roland Morad, a student who took part in the course. "You really get to experience what it is like to work on this kind of project and how cooperation is so important in group work."
