Jönköping University takes silver at European rowing finals

Jönköping University rower Martin Johansson finished second place in the B Finals of the 2000m lightweight men’s single scull at the 2018 European University Games.

Martin Johansson, a student at Jönköping University’s School of Engineering, was the only Swedish rower to qualify for this year’s European University Games. As well as coming third in the lightweight single scull B Finals of the European University Games rowing event, he finished in eighth place in the final overall ranking for his class.

The European University Games External link, opens in new window. is a two-and-a-half-week event attended by 300 universities. Students compete in events from 13 different sports. The games are organised by the European University Sports Association and take place every two years in a different European city. This year’s host was the city of Coimbra in Portugal.

In September 2019, Jönköping University will host the European University Rowing championships External link, opens in new window.. Around 500 athletes representing over 80 universities, from 21 European countries will compete in Jönköping in multiple rowing events.
