Encell is the overall national body responsible for conducting research as well as knowledge dissemination within adult education and learning.

The research area supports the Human Resource Programme and is led by Professor Cecilia Bjursell. Two principal research areas are:
The research group consists of about 20 researchers from various professional and disciplinary backgrounds, such as education, psychology and business administration. Earlier research projects have focused on competence development and learning in working life; leadership and human resources; intergenerational learning and knowledge transfer; gender and equality; diversity and inclusion; and adult learning in formal and non-formal education.
The interdisciplinary composition of the research group gives it its strength. An interactive research approach generates new knowledge which is put into practice through shared learning between researchers and practitioners.
