Karin Hellerstedt is a Full Professor and lecturer at Jönköping International Business School. Her research primarily focuses on strategy and entrepreneurship, with a particular interest in the various phases and strategic decisions throughout the entrepreneurial journey. Her PhD thesis explored the composition and development of new venture teams. Following this, her research has concentrated on the transition of ownership in privately held firms in Sweden, viewing it as a strategic choice. Additionally, she has been involved in several projects examining exit and shut-down decisions. More recently, her work has expanded to include studies on the upper echelons of firms, investigating CEO appointments and exits, boards of directors, different types of ownership, well-being, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

Karin Hellerstedt has been involved in several research projects dealing with different aspects of entrepreneurship, such as academic, rural, and knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship. She has written and published several research reports and has published in international peer-reviewed journals. Her research has also been featured in popular media.
