Biography

Carla Machado currently serves as the Director of Societal Engagement at Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) in Sweden. Her academic background includes the attainment of a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, underscoring her profound knowledge and expertise in this field. Furthermore, she holds the position of Assistant Professor, with her research and teaching endeavors centered on Sustainable Supply Chain Management within the domain of Business Administration at JIBS.

Carla boasts a robust professional background, reflecting her commitment to the industries and sustainability. She possesses thirteen-year track record in the realm of Public Relations, wherein she has effectively navigated various industrial contexts. Additionally, her three-year tenure as a sustainability auditor for Inter IKEA AB underscores her ability to critically evaluate and ensure the sustainability practices of an esteemed corporate entity.

As the Director of Societal Engagement at JIBS, Ms. Machado is entrusted with a diverse portfolio of responsibilities:

1.     Strategic Vision and Execution: continually developing and executing strategies that promote societal engagement, all in accordance with JIBS's overarching, long-term objectives.

2.     Stakeholder Relations: involves cultivating and managing relationships with external stakeholders, forging partnerships, and ensuring alignment with JIBS's mission and values.

3.     Academic Support: extends support to both the faculty and students at JIBS, aiding them in their engagement with societal and sustainability initiatives.

4.     Project Leadership: steering new projects and overseeing initiatives that contribute to JIBS's commitment to societal engagement.

5.     External Communications:  responsible for facilitating effective external communications, promoting transparent and constructive interactions with external parties.

6.     Quality Assurance and Accreditation: support to the Quality and Accreditation office, guaranteeing that JIBS adheres to the highest quality standards and accreditation requirements in all its endeavors related to societal engagement.

Research

Carla's research focuses on sustainable operations management, particularly in supply chain sustainability and organisational digital readiness. Her research focuses on family and non-family businesses. She is a researcher affiliated with the Media, Management and Transformation Centre (MMTC) and Centre for Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership (CeFEO) at JIBS. Currently (2022), she has research project on Supply Chain Sustainability in Family Firms, funded by CeFEO.
