Renira Rampazzo Gambarato is Professor in Media and Communication Studies at the School of Education and Communication, Jönköping University, Sweden. She is a previous holder of a postdoctoral position in film studies and semiotics (2008–2009) at Concordia University, Canada. She holds a PhD in communication and semiotics (2005) from Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, Brazil—a degree that included a period of study at University of Kassel, Germany. She holds a master’s degree in communication and semiotics (2002), also from Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, and a bachelor of industrial design (1998) from São Paulo State University, Brazil.

Before coming to Sweden in March 2018, she worked in Brazil, Germany, Canada, Qatar, Estonia, and Russia. She is the co-author of the book Theory, Strategy, and Development in Transmedia Storytelling (Routledge, 2020) and co-editor of The Routledge Companion to Transmedia Studies (Routledge, 2019), Exploring Transmedia Journalism in the Digital Age (IGI, 2018) and Kulturdialoge Brasilien-Deutschland: Design, Film, Literatur, Medien [Cultural Dialogue Brazil-Germany: Design, Film, Literature, Media] (Walter Frey, 2008). Her current research revolves around transmedia storytelling analysis and the complexity of transmedia experiences, transmedia journalism, and streaming media. More broadly, her research interests include Peircean semiotics, digital culture, international and intercultural media studies, and film analysis.
