Frida Lygnegård is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Rehabilitation and, since autumn 2025, Research Environment Lead at the School of Health and Welfare. She is a registered occupational therapist and holds a PhD in Disability Research and a Master's degree in Public Health.

Her research focuses on children’s and young people’s health, participation, rights, and living conditions in a changing society. A particular area of interest is how children’s own experiences can be integrated into research, practice, and societal development to create better conditions for health, well-being, and equitable childhoods. Her research spans areas such as child participation, disability, family health, parenting support, digital environments, and children's rights. A common thread throughout her work is the ambition to understand children's health within its broader context, where family, school, healthcare, social networks, digital environments, and societal structures interact.

An important aspect of her research involves co-creative and participatory approaches in which children and young people are not only the subjects of research but are also actively involved as partners in knowledge creation. The overall aim is to contribute to a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable society where children's perspectives are recognised and where children's rights are translated into practice. Research findings are used to inform the development of services, support interventions, and policies that promote children's health, participation, and positive living conditions.

Her research is closely linked to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly the goals relating to good health and well-being, reduced inequalities, gender equality, and peaceful and inclusive societies. By highlighting children's and young people's perspectives and strengthening their opportunities for participation, her research generates knowledge that can support socially sustainable development and the long-term realisation of children's rights
