Internationell kongress om barncancer i Washington DC

During October 12th to 15th 2017, Associate professor Maria Björk attended the 49th Congress of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP). SIOP’s vision is that no child should die of cancer and aims to improve and optimize treatments throughout the world.
At the conference, engaging sessions is given to clinicians, scientists, nurses, social workers, psychologists, physiotherapists, parents and survivors. The program is comprised of for example plenary sessions, guest lectures, committee/group sessions, meet the expert sessions and sessions towards young researchers. The conference moves between different parts of the world, and this year it was held in North America, Washington DC, USA. This year, almost 2000 people attended the conference.
At the conference this year, many of the studies presented in the nursing and psycology field were intervention studies. Poster presentations were shown throughout the conference. Björk had a poster about parents’ experiences of losing a child to cancer.
