National review of social work programmes completed

The Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ) has evaluated programmes leading to a degree in social work. The Social Work Programme at the School of Health and Welfare at Jönköping University has been assessed as having insufficient quality in two assessment areas.

The evaluation is part of the national quality assurance system for higher education, through which UKÄ regularly reviews programmes at Swedish higher education institutions in order to identify areas in need of development. The Social Work Programme at the School of Health and Welfare was assessed as having insufficient quality with regards to staff resources and the achievement of intended learning outcomes related to knowledge of the field's scientific foundation.

Within one year, Jönköping University must improve quality in these areas in order to retain its degree‑awarding powers for the Social Work Programme.

“UKÄ’s decision regarding the Social Work Programme is part of our ongoing quality assurance work. We have already initiated a structured programme of measures with a strong focus on strengthening the quality and long-term sustainability of the programme,” says Catherine Legrand, Managing Director and Dean at the School of Health and Welfare.
