A Kansei-Engineering based perception study to investigate the future material levels in car interiors.

With use of different methods and approaches, a model was created to predict how a material will perform in the perception in sustainability and material quality based on visual material properties. Further influences were examined, and suggestions were made to the company on how to execute materials in a car interior. It was also investigated how the combination of materials in the context of a car interior influences the perception of sustainability and material quality.

Based on a Kansei-Engineering approach, visual material properties were collected. It was then investigated how each of these properties influence the perception individually. When examining a new material, all the different material properties are evaluated and based on the previous tests a prediction is made on how the material might perform. This prediction is not very accurate because of strong influences by other factors that then were identified.
