    Crystal Abidin’s research about Chinese photo-editing app MeituXiuxiu quoted by media
    The research of Crystal Abidin, Postdoctoral Fellow at MMTC, that tracked the user flows of a Chinese photo-editing app known as MeituXiuxiu in Asia and the U.S., was quoted by a number of Chinese and American media outlets and online portals. As a sociocultural anthropologist who studies vernacular Internet culture, Crystal explains that the popularity of MeituXiuxiu represents inter-cultural diffusive flows, and its viral spread and uptake in Anglophone contexts has resulted in the emergence of exotic franca, intercultural dialogues between users, and media stereotypes.

    MMTC Professor Daved Barry’s article “Discovering the Business Studio” in the Journal of Management Education (2015, Vol. 39(1), 153-175) recently won the 2016 Fritz Roethlisberger Memorial Award. The article was co-authored by Daved Barry and Stefan Meisiek, Professor at the University of Sydney. The judging committee commented that the paper is “innovative and accessible with tremendous potential for longevity in its contribution to management education”.

    Crystal Abidin, who was just named "The 30 Top Thinkers Under 30" by Pacific Standard magazine has become an affiliated researcher of MMTC.
    Earlier in the spring semester of 2015, Crystal visited the centre for three months on the MMTC Visiting Doctoral Fellowship Program. She completed her PhD in Social Sciences in February 2016 at the Departments of Anthropology & Sociology, and Communication & Media Studies at the University of Western Australia (UWA). Currently, she is a Research Assistant at Curtin University (Australia).

    … and says farewell to three long time co-workers
    During fall 2015, Lucy Kung will leave her part-time professorship at MMTC and Jönköping International Business School which she has held since 2008. She contributed to MMTC in her capacity as part-time professor and as an influential scholar in the field of media management. Among other things, Lucy was a contributing factor to the success of MMTC’s Media Innovation event held in Stockholm in June 2015. Benjamin and Berit Hartmann are both long-time co-workers who both received their doctoral degrees at MMTC and JIBS. They now move on to positions as senior lecturers at Gothenburg Business School. We wish them best of luck in their new positions.
